How we grow peppermint
Peppermint is a sterile hybrid, so it’s grown from runners or cuttings rather than seed, and every plant traces back to known planting stock. It likes moisture and spreads vigorously, so we grow it in contained raised beds, mulched with compost and woodchip, with zero synthetic inputs.
Harvest and handling
We cut peppermint just before it flowers, when the leaf aroma is strongest, in dry weather once the morning dew has lifted. Cut stems go straight to the drying barn.
Drying and processing
Peppermint’s aroma comes from its essential oil, which is lost at higher drying temperatures. We dry it on the farm at low temperatures, strip the leaf from the stem, and pack it in sealed packaging away from light.
