How we grow raspberry for leaf
Raspberry dislikes waterlogged ground, so we plant the canes in no-dig raised beds that drain freely. They grow in the shelter of our tree rows, which reduces wind damage to the leaf. Beds are mulched with compost and on-farm woodchip. Because the canes are grown for leaf, we manage them for healthy foliage rather than fruit yield.
Harvest and handling
Raspberry leaf is picked by hand from healthy canes during late spring and summer. We select clean, undamaged leaves and leave behind any showing disease or discolouration. Leaves go to the drying barn on the day they’re picked.
Drying and processing
Leaves are dried on the farm at low, controlled temperatures until brittle, which keeps a good green colour. Dried leaf is packed in sealed, food-grade packaging and stored away from light and moisture.
